Mount Vernon will see $150 million from the state for sewer system overhaul

In addition to the $150 million, Hochul also announced a partnership with Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard and Westchester County Executive George Latimer that will advance the project.

"This is a case where justice has been denied for far too long," Hochul said. The project is about environmental justice, she said, but also, "we're dealing with racial injustice here."

"Decades of inaction have endangered the health and the economic wellness of this community," said Patterson-Howard. "I ask for our community to have patience as we fix these challenges. These challenges are not going to be fixed overnight and so they will take time, but we are moving in the right direction."
